Preparing for a Performance or Competition

In his book, The Pressure Principle, the well-known Performance Coach Dave Alred, among his other pieces of advice, suggests that if you are entering a stressful situation like a competitive sports event or a public performance of some kind, it is often useful to reset your posture.

He advises that you adopt a command posture. This involves having your shoulders down with your next stretched and being like a trained dancer, poised, upright and graceful.

The idea is that with this posture you are more in control of your situation, ready to act and alive to what you need to do to be at your best.

Try it, the next time you find yourself in an appropriate situation!
