The Fat But Fit Myth

Some of you may have seen features on the news a few weeks ago highlighting research indicating that if you are significantly overweight you are increasing your risk of heart disease, strokes and heart failure even if you are very fit. Now of course, I would still very much encourage people to exercise - it has lots of benefits, not least for your mental health - but if this research is correct, note that as well as exercising it's sensible to keep your weight within recommended limits.

For the view of eminent cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra  on this, please read the link below. As a side point it is worth noting that he also says what many other professionals have indicated for sometime but which some people are inclined to ignore, namely:

"Although exercise is very beneficial for health, weight loss is not one of those benefits."
